Uptown XO – Who video

The Arlington-based vinyl label Cricket Cemetery originally focused on punk releases, but I’m pleased that Ian Thompson’s musical tastes and ambitions are broad. DC rapper and Diamond District member Uptown XO is the latest to get the deluxe vinyl reissue treatment, surprisingly for his 2008 mixtape Takeover 2. To hype the summer release, limited to only 100 precious copies [cough cough PREORDER], the lyrically boastful track “Who” gets the music video treatment from Blakk House Films.

Uptown XO – Finding My Way video

Yesterday hip-hop label Mello Music Group dropped a new video for Finding My Way (FREE download!) from Uptown XO‘s newest album Colour de Grey. Lazlo, the video’s director, offers this statement:

“The video for “Finding My Way” takes cues from the boom bap style production of the track and imagines Uptown XO as two sides of the same young man, coming of age during the mid-nineties in Washington D.C. During the first verse XO takes on the persona of a street minded hustler, spending time in alleyways, shady housing, and rooftops. While for the second verse he portrays the role of a government insider, working to enact change through the political system on Capitol Hill. These twin lifestyles echo the flip side of the same mindset, much like the dichotomy of the District itself.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Stay cool out there DC, both sides of you.

Uptown XO – Everyday video

DMV rapper Uptown XO has produced a lengthy list of music videos, so it’s understandable the smooth lyricist would take a break and hand the reins over to Creative Junkfood for a unique animated take on his new single Everyday. The words veer into NSFW territory right off the bat, but what do you expect from DC rap? Put your headphones on! Cop the new full length Colour de Grey on Mello Music Group ASAP.
