The Nighttime Adventure Society – Past Life video

Happy Halloween DC! Folk rockers The Nighttime Adventure Society have the best band name for today in the whole town. Led by singer Laura Zax, they get into the spooky spirit with a languid, creepy cover of MJ’s Thriller, free to download at their Bandcamp page.

Our music video of the day is an animated tale featuring Little Red Riding Hoodie. The song Past Life leads off their recent debut album Chapter Two: Past Life.

Free Lobster Buffet – Perfect Girl video

Thanks to Frankenstorm Sandy, we’ve all been cooped up inside for days now, and just about all Monday night shows got canned. If you are dying for some live music tonight, unfortunately some of tonight’s lineups got postponed due to travel problems. But as of now the Red Palace plans to bring local ska band Free Lobster Buffet to the stage tonight to provide the soundtrack for your drunken Sandy stories. Check out this video for Perfect Girl, get out of your house tonight and rock out!

Tom Goss – Make Believe video

Another brand new music video for you to enjoy before Sandy plunges us into silent darkness. Singer-songwriter Tom Goss came to DC for Catholic seminary, but now he’s spreading his hopeful messages through pop music. He’s gained quite a following in DC’s enthusiastic gay community and his past music videos were very popular on the LOGO network. His latest video, Make Believe from the album Turn It Around obviously required a LOT of work and patience on the part of him and artists Scott G. Brooks and Dave Peterson, so enjoy the beautiful result.

Lightfoot – Somebody’s Watching Me video

Have you heard? A big Frankenstorm Snowicane disaster is coming early next week, so Saturday night is your only chance to dress up and party Halloween style. Folk rockers Lightfoot get into the spirit with a spooky cover of Rockwell’s 80s classic Somebody’s Watching Me that’s free to download at their Bandcamp page. They even went all out and made a video for it, mashing up horror movie classics to fit the song. Happy Halloween & stay dry everyone!

Dot Dash – The Past Is Another Country video

We’re keeping up our roll of showcasing brand new music videos this week with the latest from rock band Dot Dash. Guitarist and singer Terry Banks is a veteran of many local bands including Julie Ocean, Tree Fort Angst and Glo-Worm with Black Tambourine’s Pam Berry. Their newest album, this year’s Winter Garden Light, perfectly blends pop hooks with post-punk style. From that album, here’s The Past Is Another Country.

Javier Starks – Fall Back video

House Studio DC, named DC’s best recording studio in 2012 by the CityPaper, does more than just produce audio for some of the hottest rappers in town. Their $5 Music Video series boasts quality worth a lot more than the price tag in their name. Hot of the presses is a brand new music video from Javier Starks, for the track Fall Back from his FREE mixtape Faces of Change. Providing guest rhymes are locals Phil Adé and RAtheMC, sadly just eliminated from Simon Cowell’s competition TV show The X-Factor.

Last week smooth DC rapper Tabi Bonney released a new music video for Time Of Her Life, his collaboration with Fat Trel that leads off his free mixtape LoveJoy Park. As many of Bonney’s other music videos, this one is filled with gorgeous women enjoying summertime parties and carefree days. A real feelgood track and video.

Screen Vinyl Image – Cathode Ray video

I imagine most fans of DC music have been to Arlington’s Galaxy Hut by now. The hip and small bar long ago skipped on hard liquor to focus on an amazing beer selection, presaging DC’s intense love affair with brews micro and local. But did you know that Galaxy Hut opened a sister bar on Route 7 in Falls Church called Spacebar? Recently the new bar has begun to host shows on Sunday evenings, charging only a $5 cover just like the original Hut. This Sunday the amazing noisy electronic duo Screen Vinyl Image brings their high intensity live show to Spacebar, and there is clearly no better reason to journey out to Falls Church. Here’s the video for Cathode Ray, from their 2009 album Interceptors.
