Bluebrain – Ten By Ten video

The brothers Ryan and Hays Holladay, known around town as Bluebrain, are pushing music forward into the 21st century. Some of their recent projects involve location-aware smartphone music apps and creating the soundtrack to a mass yoga practice on the downtown Mall. But once upon a time, back in 2010, Bluebrain made a regular full length album called Soft Power, put out a single from that album, and commissioned a video for it from director Gabe Askew. Here’s the beautiful video for Ten By Ten.

Kokayi – Know Us Mayne video

DMV rapper Kokayi headlines a show tonight at Jammin Java in Vienna with hot Brooklyn remixers Spirit Animal. For today’s music video of the day we go back in time to Kokayi’s 2008 album Mass Instructions, and the lead off video Know Us Mayne, directed by Trent Watts.

Drop Electric – Bankrolled Hominid video

Leading atomspheric shoegaze purveyors Drop Electric headline the Capitol Groove Fest tomorrow at the Fairgrounds at Navy Yard Metro, along with a huge lineup of great DC bands including The Silver Liners, The Weathervanes, and Redline Graffiti. This is sure to be the party of the weekend, so don’t miss it! And it’s a great excuse for me to play Bankrolled Hominid, another beautiful video from Drop Electric’s free debut album Finding Color In The Ashes.

Tropicaliente! Latin super-group Empresarios team up with rudeboys of ska The Chariots for an awesome night of grooving at the posh club The Hamilton. The Chariots have released a free track called Judge Not to get you in the mood for fun.

Meanwhile Empresarios have cooked up another snazzy music video, this time for Rompan Fila, from their recently released Volume EP on Fort Knox Recordings.

Redhead – Beat That P***y Up video

Rising DMV rapper Redhead is a frequent live collaborator with folk rocker Justin Trawick and often freestyles at We Are The 9 Hip-Hop, an extension of Trawick’s brainchild to bring together singer-songwriters for live performances to bigger crowds. Here he is laying his own rhymes over the track Up by Loverance.

Maduro – From The Pit video

Did you have a blowout insanity weekend? Having trouble easing back into the work week? Hometown Sounds is here to help. Goth electronic musician Maduro, on the local label Octofoil Records, has some relaxing ambient music in his catalog, in addition to the edgier stuff. Here’s a beautiful track called From The Pit, from the 2011 album Chasing Dragons.

The Grey Area – Sugar, From You video

Just yesterday The Grey Area released the video for Sugar, From You, the second video from their debut EP 508. The video for this blues-y rocking track tells a tale of love and violence. MTV has apparently picked up an edited version of the video for airplay, but Hometown Sounds gives you all the unedited glory you need.

The Torches – Mr. Vampire video

I had the pleasure of seeing crazy folk rockers The Torches play at Fort Reno a few weeks ago. If you haven’t seen them live yet, your next chance comes this Sunday at the Red Palace, supported by Milkmachine. Today’s music video, filmed in an “undisclosed location”, should give you an idea of what you’re in for. It’s for Mr. Vampire, from their self-titled debut EP.

Gods’illa – Saviours & Punishers feat. Sean Price video

DMV rap trio Gods’illa, a.k.a. brothers Acem Eternal Mind, God Allah Truth, and Powerful Rasheem Mathematics, did pretty well for themselves by scoring DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, a.k.a. Erykah Badu, to host their mixtape The CPR Blend Tape. Check out this video for the track Saviours & Punishers featuring Brooklyn rapper Sean Price.
