Clones of Clones – Mine

Indie rock band Clones of Clones was already a studio-only band well before the 2020 lockdown, so no release shows were canceled in the run up to their new EP Super Available that dropped July 10th. Instead, CoC often delivers insanely pretty visuals for their music videos, as is the case for the EP’s first single “Mine”. Animator Tezo Don Lee, originally from South Korea and now residing in London, applies the soft tenor of singer Ben Payes to a lipsticked, neon-haired lounge singer in surprising, seductive style.

Clones of Clones – Drugz

Indie rock band Clones of Clones just released All The Things We Dreamed, their first full length album in 3 years. “Drugz” is a great choice for the album’s lead single, as it allowed guitarist Todd Evans to direct this amazing music video. Instead of relying on the boyish charm of lead singer Ben Payes, the video explores the dangers, and unrepentant joys, of using the wrong meds to cure the common cold. We won’t say more to avoid spoiling the video, except that it’s a real treat.

Clones of Clones – That Wasn’t Me

Clones of Clones is well known for rocking hard, but the quartet dials the intensity into a slower emotional ballad on “That Wasn’t Me”, the title track from their recent EP from March. Boston freelance illustrator Emily Hancock, creator of cotton-candy infused paintings (seriously, go look) as well as previous album cover art for Clones of Clones, contriuted to the art-driven music video for the song, and it’s really worth watching without us spoiling the whole thing. If you dig this, check out Hancock’s Patreon page for more deliciously artistic ways to support.

Clones of Clones – Somebody Else

A vibrant music scene needs more than just great bands. Bloggers, show promoters, labels, photogs and podcasters (ahem) all play a vital part in getting crowds interested and involved. DC is rather lucky to have a videographer like Nigel Lyons to craft such polished visuals for acts as diverse as Paperhaus, The North Country, Outputmessage, ACME and the Jonathan Parker’s Panel Counsel jazz ensemble. Indie rockers Clones of Clones are the latest to get the video treatment from Lyons for their new single “Somebody Else” off their upcoming full length Monster Heart. The lovesick plot might seem straightforward at first, but the finish is worth a second glance.

Clones of Clones – Float On

To bridge the gap between the 2014 EP I Don’t Need Your Love and their full length album anticipated for late 2015, indie rock band Clones of Clones worked up their favorite cover song for an actual full single release. “Float On”, the massive 2004 single by Modest Mouse, gets worked over by singer Ben Payes and his talented rock crew, and the result is a pleasing hybrid between the original and CoC’s electronic rock sound. The band even shot this haltingly charming music video, showing Payes in full on Corey Hart dreamboat mode dancing and playing near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, shooting one frame every six seconds for two hours. Float on, indeed.
