Color Palette & Maryjo Mattea videos

We’re running two music videos to get you fully caught up for Friday night‘s big release show at the Pie Shop, so you’re welcome. First up is lush synthrock band Color Palette (vets of our Millennium Stage series, of course!). Rehabilitated after a wicked knee injury, frontman Jay Nemeyer is finally ready to release Color Palette’s long-awaited sophomore album. Earlier this year the album’s first single “Dark Days” appeared in this music video directed by David Ashton of Sequoia Pictures, featuring unmistakable visual cues for 2019’s pervasive societal trauma.

Color Palette member Maryjo Mattea, well known around these parts, opens the Pie Shop show with her own eponymous rock band releasing the collection of singles from 2019 called The Other Side (one of which we premiered back in June!). Today’s video for “A New Normal”, about her evolving musical partnership with Two Dragons and a Cheetah drummer Joel Wu, was recorded live at Ivakota Studios by director Casey McAdams. We are noted enthusiasts for live in studio music videos, and this one’s quick-action camera swiveling is a fun original touch.

Presenting Color Palette @ Millennium Stage

Hometown Sounds is way beyond delighted to present synthpop band Color Palette for our May #DCmusic showcase at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.

Color Palette takes experiences like heartbreak and love, and together turns them into something mystical and inviting. The band, comprised of Jay Nemeyer, Joshua Hunter, Matt Hartenau, Rogerio Naressi, and Maryjo Mattea, is an electro-rock/synthpop band from Washington, DC. Since their first release on June 1, 2015, Color Palette have garnered hundreds of press hits worldwide. Press highlights include features in NME Magazine, USA Today, NPR, and Impose Magazine. Locally (Washington, DC), they were nominated for three 2015 Washington Area Music Awards – (Best) Pop Rock Duo/Group, Pop Rock Recording, and Pop Rock Vocalist. Color Palette released their debut full-length album ‘Vaporwave’ in May 2016. They have shared bills with many notable national artists including Charli XCX, The Naked and Famous, Mother Mother, Day Wave, Yumi Zouma, Mr Little Jeans, The Kickback, Spirit Animal, and VanLadyLove.

RSVP here and come to the free performance at 6 PM on Tuesday May 30th!

Color Palette – Heartless

Synth rock band Color Palette continue the run up to the release of their debut full length album with another in their live take video series. “Heartless” features a killer bass line from Josh Hunter and driving drum beats from Matt Hartenau that fit with the 80s-style keyboard hook. When Hollywood makes Top Gun 2, put this one on the soundtrack. Color Palette’s album release show goes down at the POV Lounge on the roof of the W Hotel on Thursday May 26th with Near Northeast, but if you just can’t wait that long to see these guys live, get to DC9 next Thursday May 12th to catch them opening for Day Wave.

Color Palette – Bullets

A few dedicated, well-run house venues in DC survive the test of time and put on a long string of amazing shows. More often, of course, police shut down the party early, landlords get wind of the goings-on and snappy-named venues fade into memory. Which will Casa Bellissima near in Shaw turn out to be? Wouldn’t it be cool to go to their first show ever? Well you can, as synth rockers Color Palette inaugurate the space this Friday with Drive TFC and New York’s Frances Cone. Color Palette’s debut full length album comes out this May, but you can sample their powerful, big room sound now with this live video for “Bullets”. Be cool, bring your own beverages, donate money for the touring band, and don’t scare the house cats.
