Mad Decent Moombahton Documentary

DC music video of the day! We’re taking a break from the traditional music videos today to teach you a thing or two about Moombahton. To educate the nation about the hottest new trend in underground dance music, the fine folks at Mad Decent have produced a video to introduce you to DJ Dave Nada and his musical love child. As part of its two year anniversary week madness, the U Street Music Hall hosts Moombahton Massive XIII tonight with Dave Nada himself and his counterpart Matt Nordstrom (Nadastrom), Sabo and Toddla T. You can see from this video how sick this party will be, so don’t miss it!

Kokayi – RoxTar video

DC music video of the day! Kokayi is constantly taking hip-hop to new places. The Grammy-nominated MC brings a diverse range of influences to his music, easily heard in the hit song RoxTar from his 2010 album Robots & Dinosaurs. RoxTar incorporates a DC bounce beat and pays tribute to its long musical history, something Hometown Sounds appreciates a lot!

The Mary Timony Band – Sharpshooter video

DC music video of the day! In celebration of International Women’s Day, today we’re featuring one of DC’s biggest rock legends, Mary Timony. Mary is best known today for playing in Carrie Brownstein’s supergroup Wild Flag, but she got her start in the all-female post-punk band Autoclave back in the early 90s, on Dischord Records. She moved to Boston and joined the band Helium, but moved back to DC (imagine that) in the mid 2000s. Her eponymous band put out a fantastic record, The Shapes We Make, in 2007 on the Kill Rock Stars label. Here’s the debut video for that release, Sharpshooter.

Edie Sedgwick – Heat Wave video

DC music video of the day! You’d be forgiven for thinking Edie Sedgwick was a female singer, but actually it’s a band fronted by long time DC rocker Justin Moyer. Justin has been involved in a long list of great bands, from El Guapo to Supersystem to Antelope, and released a lot of records on the legendary DC label Dischord. Edie Sedgwick’s latest release is a “white label 12 inch”, the original track Heat Wave and 8 remixes by acts including locals Lenorable, Triobelisk (Shelby Cinca of Frodus and The Cassettes), Gold Corner (Mike Andre of Antelope), John Moon from The Cornel West Theory and Third Channel (Jason Hutto from The Aquarium). The whole package is availble at Dischord’s online store, and today we feature the newly released music video for Heat Wave. Enjoy!

Title Tracks – Piles of Paper video

DC music video of the day! There’s a very interesting show tonight at Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier, MD that I’m looking forward to checking out. John Davis, currently of Title Tracks, plays a set with Chris Richards, his former bandmate in Q And Not U. These two amazing musicians played together on stage at the Story/Stereo event in Bethesda a couple of years ago, and you do not want to miss a chance to see it again. Rounding out the intriguing bill at tonight’s show is experimental act Insect Factory and Brazilian revivalists Alma Tropicália. Today we’ve got another video by Title Tracks, Piles of Paper, from their 2010 album It Was Easy.
