SweetBread Jim’s – The Molecule Song video

DC music video of the day! Americana rockers SweetBread Jim’s headlines an all-local bill tonight at the Red Palace on H St. NE with Benny and Jeff Martini and the 1,2 Soul Revue. This trio has built their fanbase over the past couple of years and unleashed them to earn the Band of the Month spot in March by the online Deli Magazine. Check out the video for The Molecule Song, from their 2011 demo EP available for free on SoundCloud.

Megaphone Barons – Send Somebody Else video

DC music video of the day! The debut video by rock trio Megaphone Barons has what I want in a DC music video, namely, lots and lots of DC. The song Send Somebody Else comes from their 2011 EP Menagerie, now available for the low low price of FREE! To celebrate this new video, the boys are hosting a bar crawl Friday night that kicks off at 14th & U St. NW and 9 PM. At some point they’ll get a bar to play the video, but that seems secondary to meeting new friends and enjoying many fine libations. Anyway, watch the video!

Sam Cooper & The Sleepwalkers – False Dawn video

DC music video of the day! Local troubador Sam Cooper and his band The Sleepwalkers start off a night of great music at the Velvet Lounge tonight, opening for The NRIs, another great band to catch. Sam Cooper’s Bandcamp page has a lot of EPs and albums for you to peruse, and most of them are available for free! Sam’s 2010 album Red Horses is the source for today’s video, the melancholy ballad False Dawn.

The Cornel West Theory – Jeffrey (snippet)

DC music video of the day! Today we’ve got a short preview of a soon-to-be-released jam from The Cornel West Theory, rappers with something to say. The tents of Occupy DC form the backdrop of the video. This snippet of Jeffrey gets me excited about their upcoming release The Bottom (hopefully soon!). Saturday night they headline a big show at the Black Cat mainstage, with support from fellow local rappers ACME.

DC music video of the day! Here’s a brand new video from the ever-funky See-I boys, still holding down the Gold Room every Wednesday night at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. The Turntable Dubbers & Sebski remix of Blow Up comes from the See-I Remixed album, and the video was filmed by DC’s own Jesse Justice. See-I kicks off a west coast tour next week, and in celebration they’re giving this remix away on their website, so grab it while you can!

Deep Dish – Say Hello video

DC music video of the day! Let’s get dancey with the Iranian-American duo of Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, better known as Deep Dish. Say Hello, featuring the vocals of another Iranian-American, Anousheh Khalili, comes from their 2005 album George Is On, marking their turn from their deep house origins to a more popular progressive house sound.

Drop Electric – What Now Of Paradise video

DC music video of the day! Anecdotally, one of the more popular videos I’ve run on Hometown Sounds is Finding Color In The Ashes by shoegazers Drop Electric. The song and video together really seemed to strike a chord with a wide range of viewers. Here’s another video from their FREE 2010 album Finding Color In The Ashes, What Now Of Paradise.

Tom McBride – A Brief Head Spin video

DC music video of the day! Tom McBride put out a successful album fronting his band The Whig Party before deciding to go stripped down and solo for his latest record, A Brief Head Spin. The singer-songwriter teamed up with Sean Greenhalgh from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to produce the collection of Americana-influenced songs. This Saturday night McBride plays a very high profile show at DC9, opening for The Honey Brothers, featuring Adrian Grenier from Entourage on drums (sellout warning!). The debut video from McBride’s solo album, for the title track, is simple and somewhat amateur, but the long shots looking out a car window fit well with the mellow sound of the song, and must speak closely to the life of a touring musician.
