DC music video of the day! Here’s a brand new video from the ever-funky See-I boys, still holding down the Gold Room every Wednesday night at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. The Turntable Dubbers & Sebski remix of Blow Up comes from the See-I Remixed album, and the video was filmed by DC’s own Jesse Justice. See-I kicks off a west coast tour next week, and in celebration they’re giving this remix away on their website, so grab it while you can!

Deep Dish – Say Hello video
DC music video of the day! Let’s get dancey with the Iranian-American duo of Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, better known as Deep Dish. Say Hello, featuring the vocals of another Iranian-American, Anousheh Khalili, comes from their 2005 album George Is On, marking their turn from their deep house origins to a more popular progressive house sound.
Drop Electric – What Now Of Paradise video
DC music video of the day! Anecdotally, one of the more popular videos I’ve run on Hometown Sounds is Finding Color In The Ashes by shoegazers Drop Electric. The song and video together really seemed to strike a chord with a wide range of viewers. Here’s another video from their FREE 2010 album Finding Color In The Ashes, What Now Of Paradise.
Tom McBride – A Brief Head Spin video
DC music video of the day! Tom McBride put out a successful album fronting his band The Whig Party before deciding to go stripped down and solo for his latest record, A Brief Head Spin. The singer-songwriter teamed up with Sean Greenhalgh from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to produce the collection of Americana-influenced songs. This Saturday night McBride plays a very high profile show at DC9, opening for The Honey Brothers, featuring Adrian Grenier from Entourage on drums (sellout warning!). The debut video from McBride’s solo album, for the title track, is simple and somewhat amateur, but the long shots looking out a car window fit well with the mellow sound of the song, and must speak closely to the life of a touring musician.
Kingpen Slim – Lollipop video
DC music video of the day! Kingpen Slim is stealing some limelight for himself through his new single Lollipop, produced by DJ Buttah. The local rapper’s hit song has been worming its way into our hearts for a couple of months now, and now we have an appropriately raunchy video to accompany it. Enjoy!
Mary Alouette – Blue Drag video
DC music video of the day! Mary Alouette is a musician on track to make some serious waves. She combines the gypsy jazz influence of Django Reinhardt with some modern electronic stylings to create something classic and yet completely fresh. You can see her live tonight at the Mansion at Strathmore as part of the Artist In Residence series. Today’s video for the song Blue Drag comes from her about-to-be-released EP Midas.
Maduro – Catnaps & Cabarets video
DC music video of the day! Dark & glitchy electronic label Octofoil Records isn’t well known in the DC music scene, and that’s a shame. Their marquee musician Maduro has been blending electronic beats with Middle Eastern and Asian influences for a decade, drawing comparisons to Amon Tobin and Muslimgauze. If you’ve seen any belly dancing around town, perhaps at the Red Palace, you’ve likely heard this musician’s work. Check out the video for Catnaps & Cabarets, from Maduro’s 2011 album Black Magic Kingdom, and take a demented trip to the county fair.
America Hearts – Lose You video
DC music video of the day! Indie rockers America Hearts headlines a show tonight at the Black Cat Backstage supported by another notable local band, Foul Swoops. This is the start of a three month stint for America Hearts at the Black Cat, celebrating the release of the first EP in their Singles Club series, Angsty. The next EP, Messy, drops on May 24th, followed by Country on June 27th. Today we feature the lead video from Angsty, Lose You.

Dance for the Dying & The Silver Liners videos
DC music videos of the day! Two videos for two bands playing a great show at the Rock & Roll Hotel tonight. In addition to Hometown Sounds faves We Were Pirates, the bill includes two great rock bands, The Silver Liners and Dance for the Dying.
The Silver Liners put a lot of polish on their radio-friendly rock sound. The video for the title track to their 2010 EP Just Like The Rest was filmed at a recent gig at the Red Palace. I wonder, why don’t more bands shoot music videos at local clubs? It’s like a time capsule for the moment, especially if the club gets remodeled, relocates or calls it quits. Anyway, the Silver Liners EP is available at whatever price you want, so grab it!
Coincidentally, the video for Thug Love by Dance for the Dying also comes from live performances at the Red Palace and Rock & Roll Hotel. Synchronicity! Dance for the Dying heavily features the voice of lead singer M.C. Wolfe, backing that up with dance rock beats and synth lines to make instantly catchy pop music. The song comes from their self-titled 2011 EP.
