The Grey Area – Sugar, From You video

Just yesterday The Grey Area released the video for Sugar, From You, the second video from their debut EP 508. The video for this blues-y rocking track tells a tale of love and violence. MTV has apparently picked up an edited version of the video for airplay, but Hometown Sounds gives you all the unedited glory you need.

The Torches – Mr. Vampire video

I had the pleasure of seeing crazy folk rockers The Torches play at Fort Reno a few weeks ago. If you haven’t seen them live yet, your next chance comes this Sunday at the Red Palace, supported by Milkmachine. Today’s music video, filmed in an “undisclosed location”, should give you an idea of what you’re in for. It’s for Mr. Vampire, from their self-titled debut EP.

Gods’illa – Saviours & Punishers feat. Sean Price video

DMV rap trio Gods’illa, a.k.a. brothers Acem Eternal Mind, God Allah Truth, and Powerful Rasheem Mathematics, did pretty well for themselves by scoring DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, a.k.a. Erykah Badu, to host their mixtape The CPR Blend Tape. Check out this video for the track Saviours & Punishers featuring Brooklyn rapper Sean Price.

Stripmall Ballads – She Lies In The Ground video

Phillips Saylor, performing under the name Stripmall Ballads, brings distinctly rural roots Americana music to our fair city. He’s a dynamic performer with a unique voice and a killer banjo, so try to catch him perform around town when he’s not touring the country. Today’s video for She Lies In The Ground comes his 2009 album Since Jimmy Died, available for free download on his website.

YahZarah – Why Dontcha Call Me No More video

The Washington Post Going Out Gurus wrap up their Weekend Concert Series at Carter Barron Amphitheatre tonight with the theme “Neo-Soul”, featuring Tamika “Love” Jones, Deborah Bond and headliner YahZarah. David Malitz provides a great intro piece in today’s Weekend section to the soul singer who recently returned to performing after stepping away from the music industry in frustration. Today’s video, the first from her 2010 album The Ballad of Purple St. James, is playful and catchy, and the intro will be instantly familiar to anyone who grew up in the 80s.

They even made a fun video for their catchy debut single Breathe You, with a great rooftop view making it unmistakably DC.

The Dismemberment Plan – The City (Live @ 9:30)

Yesterday the much beloved early 00s DC band The Dismemberment Plan released a video of their performance of The City at their reunion show at the 9:30 Club last year. I was lucky enough to be at that gig, my first D-Plan show, and it made me wish I hadn’t missed all the ones before it.
