Empresarios – Estereolismo video

This Saturday night Vienna hotspot Jammin Java brings together a great bill of local bands with reggae, dub and latin influences. Headliners Nayas are joined by Dub City Renegades and Fort Knox Recordings artists Empresarios. Percussionist and band leader Javier Miranda leads this talented group in mixing cumbia, salsa, house and reggae to tear up dance floors all over town. Check out the video for the track Estereolismo, from their recent EP Volume.

Bonus: Empresario and DJ Sonny Cheeba recently put together the third in his DJ mix series Verano Caliente. Perfect for easing into the weekend!

Wale – Chillin’ video

Wale, the DMV’s biggest breakout rapper, comes home tonight for a big show at the Patriot Center in Fairfax. For today’s music video of the day, instead of playing new stuff featuring the likes of Rick Ross and T-Pain, we take you back to Wale’s 2009 breakout hit Chillin’ featuring Lady Gaga.

Deleted Scenes – Days of Adderall video

For the last few weeks LivingSocial has hosted a live music series on Wednesday evenings at their 918 F Street special events location. Tonight they turn their attention to DC indie rock with rising stars The Sea Life and one of the more popular bands in town, Deleted Scenes. They started out releasing records on local label Sockets Records but recently re-released their latest album Young People’s Church of the Air on the New Orleans based label Park The Van. Tonight’s show is a fantastic chance to see these great bands in a close setting. Watch this fun and strange video for their track Days of Adderall.

Ikkadian – Adversary video

If you like your heavy metal music black and death-y, then you might already know and love Northern Virginia band Ikkadian. But if you only associate metal with big hair and bikini-clad women dancing beside muscle cars, then here’s your chance to check out some really heavy stuff. Today marks the release of Ikkadian’s new album Of Alpha And Omega, and the band is letting you download the whole thing for free and chip in whatever you feel is right. Here’s the first music video from the album, for the track Adversary.

See-I – Soul Hit Man video

The Caribbean brothers Rootz and Zeebo are the heart and soul of See-I, the reggae-funk-rock band still holding down the Wednesday night residency at 18th Street Lounge after an incredible 7 years.
If you haven’t yet seen them live, treat yourself to one of the finest live bands in town. Last year Fort Knox Recordings released their self-titled debut full length album to wide acclaim. Here’s the video for Soul Hit Man, directed by Jesse Justice.

Thievery Corporation – Is it Over? video

As I said yesterday, it’s a busy weekend for cool events happening in DC. LivingSocial sponsors a big show at the Half Street Fairgrounds featuring Gogol Bordello, Michael Franti & Spearhead, local ESL artists The Funk Ark, The Archives and Congo Sanchez, and headliners Thievery Corporation. Tickets appear to still be available, and with beautiful weather and this amazing lineup, it’s totally worth it. Today we’ve got the beautiful and strange video for the track Is It Over? from Thievery’s 2011 album Culture of Fear.

The Sea Life – Sleep (Blue Light Sessions)

There should be no chance in hell that you’ll be bored this weekend. Now that the heat is broken and everyone’s back from August recess, there is no shortage of awesome activities all over town. I’ll be dropping all my cash on minicomics and artwork at the Small Press Expo in North Bethesda, but if you aren’t a comics nerd like me you should definitely head over to the H Street Festival on Saturday. Taking over H Street NE between 8th & 14th Streets, the Festival offers 12 live performance stages, a pie eating contest, a “doggy beach” and something called “Hair Show”. You can check out some awesome local indie rock from Young Rapids, Shark Week, Teen Mom and The Sea Life, the band behind today’s featured music video. Pick Up Productions recently captured a live in-studio performance of their song Sleep, from their latest FREE self-titled EP, for the Blue Light Sessions series. Have an awesome weekend DC!

Redhead – Talk White video

DMV rapper Redhead recently signed a deal with Fontana Universal Records, bringing his debut single Talk White to digital music stores everywhere. Yesterday saw the release of the music video, shot on the streets of New York (literally) with guest Malik-16. Redhead (not his hair, that’s his actual last name) could be poised for a breakout, here’s hoping!

Uptown XO – Good Vibes video

On Monday DMV rapper Uptown XO dropped another music video from The Color Grey, his new mixtape coming October 1st. The video for Good Vibes contrasts a beautiful summer barbeque with friends with tough statements about black history in DC and the current state of oppression. Do yourself a favor and grab XO’s previous mixtapes for free while excitement builds for The Color Grey.
