The Black Cat constructed a truly eclectic bill for you this evening, inviting local indie poppers America Hearts to open for Baltimore’s noisy hardcore band Dope Body and experimental headliners Deerhoof. America Hearts shares many members with Dischord rockers Edie Sedgwick and always put on a great show, so don’t miss the first openers tonight. Pree – Fresh Paint video
Experimental folk band Pree headlines the Red Palace tonight, along with Oakland band Birds & Batteries. Our friends at DC Music Download interviewed band members May Tabol and Ben Usie, a great primer before checking out the show tonight. It feels like summer took a little break on us for the last few days, before cranking the heat back up for the weekend. Yesterday saw the release of a powerful new video from DMV rapper Uptown XO, best known as 1/3 of the group Diamond District with Oddisee and yU. Occupy DC gives us a taste of his upcoming mixtape The Color Grey, coming October 1st, with a literal twist on the concept of knowledge as power.
Kindlewood – This House video
The Black Cat hosts a great lineup of local folk rock tonight with headliners The NRIs and openers Kindlewood. Kindlewood garnered a lot of attention from their 2011 release Desiderium, and they’ve just released a 7″ for the single Give & Take, a preview of their new full length coming very soon.
