Caustic Casanova – I Hate Everyone I Want To Like video

Arlington’s Galaxy Hut, the best place in the DC area to see an intimate show and choose from an amazing beer list, hosts two hard rocking bands tonight. We featured openers North of Canada in a Hometown Sounds Podcast last year, and headliners Caustic Casanova‘s music video for Short Commute, Live Forever placed in our top 5 music videos of 2012. Here’s an older video of theirs, for I Hate Everyone I Want To Like from their 2008 album Imminent Eminence.

Vegas With Randolph – Snow Day video

Oh, DC. A dusting of snow and everyone freaks out. I grew up here so I know just as well as anyone our love/hate/terror relationship with the white stuff. Local rock band Vegas With Randolph wrote a catchy song for the occasion called Snow Day that we featured in our special holiday mixtape episode of the Hometown Sounds Podcast. And just today they released the video for the song! Well timed, gentlemen.

Parsely – Salted video

Let’s keep it short and sweet today DC. Parsely (watch that spelling) is the solo project of Vanessa Degrassi, a member of two local indie-folk bands Pree and Frau Eva. After an extended trip to Asia, Vanessa is moving to New Orleans soon. This is a total bummer for DC after Frau Eva’s very well received album Underneath Eyelids, but hey, at least it’s not New York! Here’s a brief video for Salted, from Parsely’s FREE 2011 EP Purple Sea.

Uptown XO – Flowers video

Rapper Uptown XO has released a barrage of music videos over the last few months for his free mixtape The Color Grey. His commercial album Colour de Grey drops January 29th on the Mello Music Group, and the first video from it premiered last week. Flowers deals with the hardships of growing up rough in DC. To support this hard working and authentic performer, pre-order the album now!

Honest Haloway – Psycho Bitch video

DC, I’ve got a killer music video for you today. But it’s crazy (psycho even!), very NSFW and you’re probably at work now, so be cool about it. Keep a spreadsheet open and your fingers above Alt+Tab and check out this new video from Honest Haloway. Singer Tim Kratzer was once in local indie rock band The Vita Ruins, but now he makes spaced out dance music with the help of drummer Charlie Karim. Psycho Bitch comes from their FREE 2011 EP The Towns. This video debuted yesterday on YouTube, but didn’t last long there due to lame content restrictions. LAME! Let’s hope Vimeo is cooler. After a bit of a hiatus, the bands is back recording new material, and your next chance to see them live is Saturday March 9th at Velvet Lounge.

DC Music at M Central Inauguration Party

The most interesting inauguration party this weekend is definitely M Central, a big arts festival and bash at a pop-up gallery space at 700 H Street NE. It’s organized by the No Kings Collective and the New America Foundation, with music presented by my friends at Listen Local First. Sunday night’s Inauguration Eve party features local heavyweights US Royalty and Shark Week, joined by The Dig and Low Cut Connie with DJ sets by Soul Call Paul. Get $20 advance tix at Eventbrite, because you know this party will sell out at the door if not before! Check out the always informative CityPaper for more details.

Fort Knox Five host Funk 4 Peace Ball @ U Hall

The Fort Knox Recordings guys like throwing big takeover parties at U Street Music Hall on holiday weekends, and the inauguration this weekend takes it to the next level. The local FKR gang of Empresarios, Nappy Riddem, All Good Funk Alliance and Fort Knox Five is joined by DJ Nu-Mark, well known scratching innovator, producer for Jurassic 5 and frequent collaborator with DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. The huge assortment of DJ talent assembled is mind blowing! For extra hype, Fort Knox Five created another “Remint”, this time remixing 60s classic “For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield.

Thievery Corporation – Take My Soul video

Downtempo kings Thievery Corporation begin their three night sold out takeover of the 9:30 Club tonight. Sounds like a great reason to play another gorgeous video by the ESL bosses. Today’s video for Take My Soul, from 2011’s Culture of Fear album, features the soothing vocals of Thievery’s most frequent vocal collaborator LouLou Ghelichkhani.
