DoubleMotorcycle – Feet On The Ground

Frederick’s beloved two-piece rock band DoubleMotorcycle is back with a brand new music video. From their 2019 album Doublemotorcycle II, “Feet On The Ground” is a percussive banger with plenty of Joe Jalette’s signature vocal sneer. At two minutes in, hust when you feel like you’ve got the gist of the song, surprise raps from Ricole Barnes, vocalist of fellow Frederick band daMOOD, deliver a surprising twist. The video features sly references to other DoubleMotorcycle vids as well as a wistful reminder of the abrupt closure of Bethesda venue Villain & Saint. Hang tight until late March for more live sets from these monstrous pyramids of rock.

Magazine Beach – Trainwreck

Let’s put some visuals to a fun song we spun on the most recent podcast episode. Magazine Beach‘s catchy emo-pop tune “Trainwreck” from last December’s 4 song EP Sick Day gets this music video of the four lads goofing around in a trash can, throwing beers and jamming in a basement room packed with old stuff. Singing “i want to be like your old cassettes / only use me when your phone is dead”, teenage fun with a subtext of angst is the perfect formula for this.

Too Free – ATM

Continuing the journey from basement punk shows to glam dancefloor vibes, the members of now-defunct Priests continue to release music under their label Sister Polygon Records. Their newest act is Too Free, a trio comprised of Awad Bilal (Big Freedia), Carson Cox (Merchandise), and Don Godwin (Callers). Their debut single “ATM” is a warbly, off-kilter mid-tempo soul groove worthy of a 12″ single filled with remixes. Cox’s music video for the tune provides distinctive visuals for the song’s sparse elements. Grab the clear vinyl pre-order of Love in High Demand now before the album drops on February 21st.

Origami Angel – 24 Hr Drive-Thru

“This D.C. duo embodies the sound of emo in 2019” says almighty Pitchfork, and we can’t help but agree. We spun Origami Angel‘s single “24 Hr Drive-Thru” from their breakout album Somewhere City on the latest episode of our podcast, and this music video is essential viewing for all emo and power-pop fans. A simple ode to procuring fast food without exiting your vehicle, this video explodes with headbanging and singalongs in a car full of friends and fried treats. Best part: crowdsurfing to the back of the packed car. See Origami Angel play with their VA buds Commander Salamander, MD grunge band Sweet Peach, and touring acts Hospital Bracelet at the VFW 9724 in Falls Church on Sunday January 19th.
