Teen Mom – Girlfriend

Slacker indie rock band Teen Mom is no more, as singer Chris Kelly decided he didn’t really love us anymore and moved to Colorado. But we’ve got one last music video from the beloved trio for “Girlfriend”, the melancholy farewell track from Teen Mom’s recently released pay-what-you-want album Groovy. Consistency is gold and Teen Mom returns to the “found footage” video style that worked well for their previous videos, blending old home movie shots from the 60s and 70s to enhance the feelings of despondency and nostalgia as Kelly sings “It won’t take long until I’m gone”. That last note of ethereal post-rock sound is a fitting end for this memorable musical collaboration.

Teen Mom – When You Go (Waltz)

For years slacker-tinged indie rock band Teen Mom have graced stages all over DC, from Fort Reno to the Howard Theatre and many basements and DIY spaces between. It’s been two years since their EP Gilly filled our ears, but today the trio of Chris Kelly, Sean Dalby and Tom MacWright released their first full length album Groovy. Every good album release needs a music video, so Teen Mom gives us these visuals for the waltzable, dreamy single “When You Go”. Like their previous single “I Wanna Go Out”, one of the best DC videos of 2012, “When You Go” repurposes old footage, this time a bizarre 60s film featuring people dressed as monkeys riding bikes. Admittedly it gets a bit slow in the middle, but the end is worth sticking around for. Teen Mom plays live next on Friday October 23rd at WMUC in College Park with Expert Alterations and Slumberland Records’s Mercury Girls.

Best Video of 2012 #3: Teen Mom – I Wanna Go Out

Teen Mom are poised to be the next breakout stars from DC. As I write this, they sit at #6 on the Hype Machine’s list of 10 Most Blogged Artists, driven by the success of their recently released 12″ EP Mean Tom on Analog Edition Records. The debut video from that release, I Wanna Go Out, comprises footage from a 1980 French film called La Boum, and the perfect marriage between video and song lands them in the #3 spot on our top 5 music videos of 2012.

Teen Mom – I Wanna Go Out video

Today the fuzz pop trio Teen Mom released an awesome video for I Wanna Go Out, from their upcoming debut EP Mean Tom (get it?). It looks like a “bad teens partying” movie from the early 80s, and yet still manages to have a big heart. Your next chance to catch them live in Friday November 16th at Velvet Lounge, with Vulture Sh!t and Tough/Luck.
