Chopteeth – Eyi Su Ngaangaa (Live)

In case you haven’t yet become acquainted with Takoma Park’s big band Chopteeth, who usually have around 14 or so musicians jamming on stage to originals and Afrobeat classics by Fela Kuti and others, well let me fix that for you. Here’s a live video of them playing “Eyi Su Ngaangaa” by Ghana’s The Sweet Talk, from Chopteeth’s 2010 self-titled live album, at the Takoma Park Street Festival back in October. So much fun.

Chopteeth – Traitors of Africa live video

I don’t often feature a live video for the DC Music Video of the day, but Chopteeth are too good to ignore. This huge 12 piece ensemble plays infectuous Afrobeat music, and you cannot help but dance at one of their powerful live shows. If you’ve never seen them play, your next chance is Saturday night at the Artisphere in Rosslyn, with an opening set by local latin reggae band Nayas. Here’s a taste of the Chopteeth magic, a rendition of Femi Kuti’s Traitors of Africa performed at the Rock & Roll Hotel last year, featuring Funk Ark leader Will Rast on keys.
