Like the many varieties of sweet & savory pies on offer downstairs at the Pie Shop, different delicious flavors of pop music take the upstairs stage tonight. See The Eli Lev Collective, Nah. and Mystery Friends starting at 8 PM.
Saturday 10/12:
This past summer the trio of Ian MacKaye, Amy Farina and Joe Lally avoided adopting a name in an effort to keep their music offline and in the moment of live performance. Now they’ve settled on the name CORIKY and Saturday afternoon they help to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the DC Library’s Punk Archive initiative at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, along with exhibitions of photography and zines and punk ephemera.
Sunday 10/13:
“Trumpeter Joseph Brotherton holds it down every Wednesday at Jojo on U Street, hosting an eclectic session that features hard-hitting groove adaptations of jazz standards alongside spoken word, Afrobeat and even stand-up comedy. Drummer Kelton Norris… is young, but you can hear him on the bandstand with giants of D.C. jazz like Michael Bowie and Allyn Johnson, executing everything from deep, Blakey-like swing to slick drum & bass grooves.” See both DC jazz musicians lead their own ensembles at CapitalBop‘s monthly Jazz Loft Sunday night at Takoma Park’s Rhizome.
