Don’t Stay Home This Weekend 1/04

Welcome to 2019! If your new year’s resolution is to see more DC music, you have come to the right place. Here we go with live music picks for every day this weekend!

Friday 1/04:
It’s the first Friday of the month, which means The Marx Cafe‘s epic 15 year running post-punk DJ night We Fought The Big One is back. Tonight catch a live set from new DC band Frend, plus a very special DJ set from Tone‘s Norm Veenstra honoring the late Andras Fekete of Boat Burning.

Saturday 1/05:
We don’t often get to plug shows at the Creative Cauldron in Falls Church, but the month long Passport to the World Festival always brings some can’t-miss gems to our calendar. Saturday night Jess Eliot Myhre of the Bumper Jacksons hosts a septet of DMV musicians paying tribute to legendary country music star Patsy Cline in story and song, including Maureen Andary of the Sweater Set, Karen Jonas and Lauren Calve.

Sunday 1/06:
Head right back to Creative Cauldron on Sunday night for DC native soul singer Cecily‘s Tribute to DC musical history, featuring classics by Duke Ellington, Gil Scott-Heron, and Roberta Flack.
