The Sweater Set – Call Me Maybe video

Many people wonder what the “song of the summer” will be, the pop hit that captures our hearts as we drive to the beach or play hackeysack or whatever. From my vantage point, the only thing that comes close to ubiquity (inescapability?) this summer is Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit Call Me Maybe. Let’s continue that trend by watching folk duo The Sweater Set cover the song on ukelele and keys. If you dig this, don’t miss them play tonight at the Velvet Lounge with fellow locals Luray and Ms. Fridrich.

Kindness & Trouble Funk – That’s Alright video

British disco/R&B producer Adam Bainbridge, aka Kindness, showed his appreciation for the DC Go-Go sound on his recent release World, You Need A Change Of Mind by remixing Trouble Funk‘s song Still Smokin’ into his track That’s Alright. Taking the tribute even further, last month Kindness joined Trouble Funk on the stage of U Street Music Hall to shoot a video of the collaboration. It looks like a crowd-pleasing performance from the kings of Go-Go.

House of Soul – Push It video

House of Soul is doing what I love, taking a classic sound in a new direction. They make soulful house music but perform it with live instrumentation and no laptops. The result is a sweaty, feel good show that’s been a fixture on the schedule at Bossa in Adams Morgan for quite a while now. The group released their debut album Let’s Move last year, and recently put out a remix package for the single Push It. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, they made a music video for the song that gives you a sense of what the live experience is all about. You can celebrate with them tonight at The Dunes in Columbia Heights at the release party for the music video.
