The Obsessives – You’re My God

While touring the country in support of their sophomore self-titled album out on vinyl through Lame-O Records, super indie emo duo The Obsessives just released the album’s second music video. “You’re My God” gets the chorus deep into your head, as Nick Bairatchnyi sings “Tryin’ to be cool ’bout this, but it gets hard sometimes”, while video director Kyle Thrash puts Nick and drummer Jackson Mansfield into unlikely situations involving fencing, karate and going goth in front of church. Don’t miss their next swing through DC on Tuesday June 13th at the Rock & Roll Hotel opening for Sorority Noise.

The Obsessives – Surfer Rosa

If you’re a fan of indie rock, you don’t need us to point out the reference in the title of the new single by The Obsessives. The duo of Nick Bairatchnyi and Jackson Mansfield have been playing together since the age of fifteen, making a big splash with their debut album Heck No, Nancy back in 2015. The pre-order is now live for their second album, self-titled this time on Lame-O Records, and the music video for “Surfer Rosa” is a playful attention-grabber. Director Corrinne James turns life into a weird video game with cartoonish flying saucers punishing our young rock stars for making the wrong choices. Don’t miss them playing at the 9:30 Club on Tuesday March 21st opening for Modern Baseball.

The Obsessives – Camping

“Camping”, the debut music video from emo duo The Obsessives, is firmly rooted in the high school experience. Childhood friends Nick Bairatchnyi and Jackson Mansfield recently left that ordeal of youth behind, but the plaintive lyrics and intense but unhurried music reflects that time when everything seems to matter so much. The video footage is what I expect smartphone-equipped youth assemble these days to remember the important times with friends that are about to change and vanish forever. The Obsessives’ debut full length album Heck No, Nancy comes out September 18th on Near Mint Records, but you can make their day and pre-order it now.
