Lightmare – Pica Taco 25 (Tiny Desk Contest)

Six piece soulpunk band Lightmare squeezed in this entry just under the 2020 Tiny Desk Contest deadline. “Pica Taco 25”, a new song presumably inspired by the local Taqueria Mexicana chain, is captured in this Zoom video that must have been challenging to synchronize with the tempo and intensity changes. Creativity finds a way!

On the song’s title, Lightmare responded:

Funny story, the title of the song was the automatically populated title on one of our phones when we recorded the first take. After searching for the right new title to capture the real message of the song—the ongoing battle with depression and trauma—we realized nothing felt adequate, so we chose to leave the title where it dropped.

Breaking free of genre and gender constraints, sextet Lightmare deliver a brand new song for their 2019 Tiny Desk Contest entry for NPR Music. “Kill The Butcher” is a new song that gets jammy in the middle and screamy at the end, but maintains a punk groove throughout. Lightmare – Good Night White Pride

Last night soulpunk band Lightmare debuted their new music video “Good Night White Pride” to their supporters at the Looking Glass Lounge. We think this fun therapeutic romp of a song is worth a few minutes of your day too. Gender-neutral singer Shady Rose shouts into a megaphone and dances up a storm while their crew stretches and warms up for their attacks on the divisive political issues of 2019. To all the curators of new protest song playlists, drag “Good Night White Pride” right to the top. Lightmare’s release Dream Glitch is available now.
