Beautiful Swimmers – Big Coast video

Tonight the monthly free dance party The Whale, from the fine folks at the Future Times label, returns to the U Street Music Hall. The musical selectors for the evening include Andrew Morgan from Peoples Potential Unlimited Records and Ari Goldman and Andrew Field-Pickering, better known as Beautiful Swimmers. The video they made for their 2010 single Big Coast looks like it was made on vintage 80s video equipment, and does not skimp on the beautiful swimmers.

Screen Vinyl Image – Night Trip video

Husband and wife duo Jake and Kim Reid left the respected shoegaze group Alcian Blue back in 2006 to do their own thing as Screen Vinyl Image. The experimental effects still cut through this duo’s music, but their live shows bring an electronic dance element that takes them to a higher level. If you haven’t caught them live yet, Screen Vinyl Image headlines a show tonight at the Black Cat with Chicago shoegazers Airiel and local indie rockers Dot Dash. Here’s their latest video for the song Night Trip, from their 2011 album Strange Behavior.

District Comics

District Comics cover
Anyone who knows me know that my love of comics comes pretty damn close to my love of music. That’s why I was so excited to hear about the release of District Comics, an anthology of comics about DC edited by Matt Dembicki. Check out their Blogspot for lots of info and samples about the ambitious project, with stories ranging from the Civil War to Bad Brains. On Sunday a bunch of the contributors to the book will be doing a mass signing at One More Page Books in Arlington, VA from 3-5 PM, so go get your copy personalized and meet the amazing creators!

Also my awesome buds at Big Planet Comics interviewed Matt Dembicki about the book and others on their most recent podcast. Their podcast is killer, and you can subscribe to it on iTunes!
