The Walking Sticks – The News

In our roles as purveyors of DC music, it’s a pleasure to see bands start up from nothing and grow into themselves as performers and songwriters, or you know, partying too much and flaming out. The Walking Sticks have developed a confidence in their dreamy synthpop sound over the last few years that shows how determined they are to join the ranks of GEMS, Beauty Pill and Ex Hex achieving the national spotlight. Today no less than Paste Magazine premiered this new music video for their latest single “The News”. You can count on seeing the lights, smoke machine and singer Chelsea Lee’s sultry power on display Saturday night at Songbyrd with a fully DC support lineup in Cautious Clay, Moonlight Mask and Redline Graffiti.

The Walking Sticks – You Got What You Wanted video

Most of the time, music videos take a long time to make. Developing the concent, finding a director, filming, editing, post-production, all can take many long months. Young dream-pop act The Walking Sticks kept everything quick and simple when they decided to shoot a video for their newest single “You Got What You Wanted”. Venturing out into the winter wonderland arriving with last Saturday’s snow and ice storm that shut down much of the weekend here, they shot this long take of singer Chelsea Lee’s dreamy crooning of this steamy track with only an iPhone. Really, it’s just impossible to resist throwing out temperature jokes for this video.

The Walking Sticks – Had Enough Of Your Love (NPR Tiny Desk submission)

Dream pop band The Walking Sticks did not let DC down in their submission for NPR’s Tiny Desk contest. “Had Enough Of Your Love”, a new and unreleased song, pulses with an energy that remains wonderfully understated in this live acoustic version. I love how the percussive beat is absent in the audio but present in the video of Chelsea, Max and Spencer bopping along together. The Walking Sticks have set a new high bar in their still fledgling catalog of songs. Catch them live next at DC9 on Thursday February 5th opening for Kristin Diable and Great Good Fine Ok, presented by Communion Music & All Things Go.

The Walking Sticks – One Sweet Thing video

The video we’ve all been waiting for is here! Yesterday young dream poppers The Walking Sticks unveiled the product of their recent live video shoot for “One Sweet Thing” at DC9. Superfans learned the choreography for the song from YouTube and wore fuzzy Silent Disco-esque headphones to show off their moves on stage. The result is goofy, sometimes awkward and contains a surprising amount of ass (worker bees beware!) for the sweet and fluffy song from their newest EP Pop Dreams, now freely available for your downloading pleasure. Don’t miss the EP release show this Saturday night at Rock & Roll Hotel with PLOY and Lean Quatifah.

The Walking Sticks – Bang (Vibe With You) video

Earlier this month, dream pop trio The Walking Sticks invited fans to dance in a new music video for “One Sweet Thing” at a show at DC9. While we wait to see everyone’s goofy dance moves on that song, BYT premiered the first video from their upcoming EP Pop Dreams yesterday. “Bang (Vibe With You)” provides appropriately abstract and meditative footage shot by Sam and David Janesko, accompanying the delicate production by twins Max & Spencer Ernst and amazing pipes of singer Chelsea Lee. Pop Dreams comes out November 11th, and the release show comes Saturday November 22nd at Rock & Roll Hotel.

The Walking Sticks – You Might Like This Song video

Mellow dreampop band The Walking Sticks put a welcome emphasis on singer Chelsea Lee’s vocals in their songs. Their new EP Send The Night, a FREE download released last month, is required downloading in advance of their slot on Saturday night at The Black Cat opening for Who Needs a Pulse (formerly Mike & Cody) and DC indie rock darling Olivia Mancini & her Mates. Videographer Sam Janesko created this music video for The Walking Sticks’ new song “You Might Like This Song” from live performance footage and a classic Jimmy Stewart film, and the catchy doo-doo-doo vocal chorus has me definitively liking the song.

Bonus video! Olivia Mancini & The Mates rehearse a new song “Where Are You? (The Science of Love)”, with Pop-Up Video style facts about your brain on love. Don’t miss this great all-DC music lineup Saturday night at the Black Cat!

The Walking Sticks – Send The Night video

Between Miyazaki, Ra Ra Rasputin, Honest Haloway and many others, it’s a great time to be a fan of synthpop in DC. The brand new free EP Send The Night by The Walking Sticks fits this trend and should be added to your weekend playlist immediately. The Silver Spring trio of twin brothers Max and Spencer Ernst and singer Chelsea Lee took a much dancier turn from their 2012 acoustic album World So Bright. Watch the new music video for the title track of their new EP and catch them changing up the usual vibe dramatically at the Old Brogue Irish Pub in Great Falls tonight.
