The Messthetics – Touch Earth Touch Sky

In advance of The Messthetics‘ sophomore album Anthropocosmic Nest dropping this Friday on Dischord Records, the instrumental trio released the album’s first music video “Touch Earth Touch Sky”. In case you’re new here, Fugazi’s drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally joined guitar wizard Anthony Pirog in 2016 to hammer out complex time signatures and wailing guitar solos on their debut self-titled album. “Touch Earth Touch Sky” shows a more melancholic mood akin to cinematic post-rock legends Explosions in the Sky, with a video from director Dan Sharnoff fitting the song’s vibe with manipulated tour footage through dark colored lenses. Trust us, grab tix while you can for The Messthetics’ album release show Wednesday September 11th at the Black Cat with Janel Leppin and Mock Identity.

The Messthetics – Mythomania (SofaBurn Session)

Dischord instrumental band The Messthetics are touring far and wide in early 2019. The merging of guitar shredder Anthony Pirog with Fugazi’s rhythm section, Brendan Canty on drums and Joe Lally on bass, made quite an amazing band straddling a nonexistent line between jazz and rock. As they tour the world on their 2018 self-titled album, they recently stopped by Candyland Studio in Cincinnati to record a live session for SofaBurn Records. We’d quite like to get our hands on the whole thing soon, but for now enjoy this up close live performance of the album’s opening track “Mythomania”. Pro tip: you’ll want to grab tickets for the Messthetics opening for Ex Hex at the 9:30 Club on May 10th as soon as they go on sale, so don’t nap.
