Makeup Girl – Those Eyes

Lovable indie rock band Makeup Girl are back with a new music video and we are captivated. Directed by Ethan Gandler, “Those Eyes”, from their name-your-own-price EP In Time from late 2018, starts with a bang when actor Alex Melvin makes a surprising high-speed abduction wearing a ridiculous fake mustache. And it only gets weirder and more fun from there. Friday February 21st is your next chance to see Makeup Girl live at the Pie Shop along with three other classy DC acts, Stray Fossa, The Colonies and Child Ivory.

Presenting Des Demonas @ Luce Unplugged

Hometown Sounds returns to the Luce Unplugged showcase next Thursday night February 13th to host DC punk band Des Demonas!

The band hails from Washington, DC, and have been denizens of the byways and highways of the city’s musical underground for years. Jacky Cougar Abok is the six-foot-five-inch tall Kenyan punk singer who has drummed with Thee Lolitas and Foul Swoops. Guitarist Mark Cisneros has bent strings with Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds, Deathfix, and Medications, and has pounded the traps for The Make-Up and Benjy Ferree, the latter alongside organist Paul Vivari. Joe Halladay (Citygoats) on bass and Ryan Hicks (Suns Of Guns) on drums round out this squared circle of sight and sound.

A staff-led art talk about artwork chosen by the performing artists starts at 5:30 pm followed by a performance at 6 pm. As always, the show is free & all ages so RSVP here!

Run Come See & Elena Lacayo – Morir Bailando

ICYMI, Americana-infused rock band Run Come See are holding down a monthly residency at The Public Option, a cool brewpub in Langdon with a progressive tipping policy. The concept for this series running through 2020 is to collaborate each month with a different DC-based opening act, recording a collaborative song and uploading a video of the performance. This past Saturday they welcomed bilingual folk singer Elena Lacayo to the series and performed a new version of her Spanish-language song “Morir Bailando” originally from the 2017 full length album Volcán. The video was filmed by Lauren Calve, member emeritus and current fiancée of the band’s guitarist John Figura. Mark your calendars for the next show on Saturday March 14th featuring Steve Kolowich of Stranger in the Alps!
